How to Use SprinklesTM Premium Estimate Maps
NAVIGATION: Search by address with the search bar (top of screen):
And use the zoom tools to zoom to an area of interest (bottom right).
VIEWING PREMIUM ESTIMATES: Zoom in enough to click on a single point:
Click on the colored dot for the address of interest, and you will get a pop-up window that includes the flood insurance premium estimate for a standardized home. In the example below, the premium is $515 (qc_id is just the Sprinkle ID).
If your map includes geographic rates, you will see all 12 geographic rates listed as well. Geographic rates have units of $ per $1,000 coverage (more on geographic rates). In the example below, the premium is $677.
ASSUMPTIONS USED IN THE Risk Rating 2.0 PREMIUM estimateS
Risk Rating 2.0 Premium Estimates were generated for a standardized home, using the following assumptions about the home, its structural makeup, and the flood insurance contract selections:
General:
- Single family home
- Primary residence
- State and county: Erie County, NY (determines concentration risk territory)
- Community Rating System (CRS) Discount Percentage = 0%
Structural:
- Frame Construction
- Slab foundation
- First floor height = 0.5 ft above lowest adjacent grade
- Machinery and equipment not above first floor
Contract:
- Coverage for first floor, or first two floors
- Zero prior claims
- Coverage A Value (building replacement cost) = $400,000
- Coverage C Value (contents replacement cost) = $150,000
- Coverage A (building) Limit = $250,000
- Coverage A (building) Deductible = $1,250
- Coverage C (contents) Limit = $100,000
- Coverage C (contents) Deductible = $1,000
- Standard applicable fees and surcharges
Each of the above factors has an influence on the NFIP Risk Rating 2.0 premiums and may need to be adjusted to better reflect your situation.
Also, you may want to run what-if scenarios to see, for example, how changing the deductible changes your premium.
how to use the risk rating 2.0 calculator to CUSTOMIZE your PREMIUM ESTIMATE
You can customize your premium estimate in the Risk Rating 2.0 Calculator, using the geographic rates included with the standardized premium.
Geographic rates represent the geographic components of Risk Rating 2.0 insurance premiums (for example, how far your house is from the closest stream or river). While these can vary significantly from house to house and from neighborhood to neighborhood, they are fixed for any given location.
Geographic rates are broken out by coverage type (b = building; c = contents) and flood peril, only some of which are applicable, depending on where you live:
Flood Perils:
- f = fluvial (risk from nearby river/stream overtopping its banks)
- p = pluvial (risk from heavy rainfall; only applies in leveed areas)
- ss = storm surge (risk from coastal waters during large storms)
- ts = tsunami (only applies along the West Coast)
- gl = Great Lakes (risk from high water and seiche along the Great Lakes)
- ce = coastal erosion (only applies a short distance from the ocean)
To customize your premium estimate, plug the 12 geographic rates into the Risk Rating 2.0 Calculator.
.
All remaining inputs in the calculator are set by default to match the general/structural/contract assumptions listed above. Edit these remaining inputs to customize your Risk Rating 2.0 premium estimate.
