Projected Increase in National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Premiums under Risk Rating 2.0

In April 2023, FEMA released statistics on how premiums are changing under Risk Rating 2.0, relative to existing premiums. Premiums were aggregated at the zip code level and represent policies for single family homes only.

The interactive map below shows the percent increases in three categories:  0%-50%, 50%-150%, and > 150%. Zip codes with less than five NFIP policies in force are displayed as “No Data”. Maximum increase is 1098% for zip code 70082 in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. Percent increase is based on the ultimate Risk Rating 2.0 premiums, but annual increases are capped at 18%. Statistics are based on NFIP data as of December 2022.

How to use the interactive map:

Click on the map (may take a minute to load). Once it loads, you can zoom in to your area of interest or search by address. Click on a zip code area to see the ultimate premium under Risk Rating 2.0 (“Risk_Rate”), the current rate (“Curr_Rate”), and the percent increase (“Increase”).

Note: Premiums can vary dramatically across a zip code. This map for Seabrook, TX, which is all within zip code 77586, shows just how much.
